A proof test is a form of stress test to demonstrate the fitness of a load-bearing structure. Here at BP Precision in Edmonton, AB we provide proof testing practices for our clients. There are many different types of proof tests.
Proof Testing of Lifting Equipment
This requires a proof load test. During a proof laod test a piece of lifting equipment is overloaded deliberatly to ensure it can perform to the required safe working load for which it is designed to withstand. Lifting equipment should be proofed every year to ensure it is up to safety standards.
Pressure testing, which is also known as hydrostatic testing refers to the process used to test piping systems, gas cylinders, boilers, and pressure vessels are tested for strength and leaks. It is always carried out after the installation of any pipeline before it is put into use. Hydrostatic testing investigate the various limits of the pipeline which will test areas such as the reliability, maximum capacity, leaks, joint fittings, and pressure. Without this information the pipe can not be put into service and operators do not know if the the pipe meets the set requirements.
The information found from pressure testing aids to maintain the safety standards and the upkeep of the pipeline or equipment tested. During a proof pressure test an internal pressure and determine if the vessel contains any leaks or other weakness such as wall thinning that may result in failure.
Hydraulic testing is the practice of testing fluid powered systems such as heavy construction equipment, highway equipment, aircraft, trains and agriculture equipment. Testing for hydraulic equipment is usually performed with the help of complex test systems or Test Stands. The test stand acts as a fluid supply source and can be adjusted to supply the required fluid at the flows, pressures, and temperatures necessary for the test.
